Fuel Level Sensors: Useful Tips for Choosing the Right Device

Very often companies put fuel consumption on the top of their problem list. At the same time, the issue remains manageable. Its solution lies in satellite-based fleet management with fuel level sensors or simply FLS.

FLS is a highly precise measuring tool, used for indicating the volume of fuel (gasoline, diesel fuel oil, and lube) in vehicle tanks and other containers. The sensors remain an essential part of the GPS/GLONASS fleet management. Its modus operandi comes down to choosing the very signal, which corresponds to the real level of fuel.

FLS use analog and digital signals. Analog sensors cannot provide high-quality accuracy and hereupon are hardly ever used. Digital FLS, which are usually more precise, process analog signals into digital data and correct it taking into consideration error of measurement. The latter is partly caused by tank shape and maldistribution of fuel.

Installation of fuel level sensors for GPS/GLONASS fleet management

It is advisable that the installation of the GPS/GLONASS fuel level sensor should be carried out only in certified repair centres. Our company comprises a branch network of service centres in various cities of Russia, where relevant procedures are carried out. Installation of the GPS/GLONASS fuel level sensor implies the following performance testing and sealing.

We work with fuel systems of any complexity, and equip vehicles with two or more fuel compartments. Special software which is used for connecting FLS, allows adjusting of the devices for collaborative operation with satellite-based trackers.

Fuel level sensor scope

  • Providing full control over fuel consumption
  • Tracking down fuel drains
  • Controlling refueling frequency
  • Reducing fuel consumption and expenses

Fuel level sensor is a high-tech solution of the MONTRANS company. It is widely used in digital fleet management and plays an essential part in controlling fuel consumption. FLS is designed to indicate the level of fuel (gasoline, diesel fuel oil, and lube) in vehicles or stationary tanks. It varies in length and can be applied to tanks of different depth levels.

Which fuel consumption sensor should I choose?

At present, the most popular, reliable, and accurate sensor is digital FLS, which is commonly used by MONTRANS. Its error limit does not exceed 1%, besides, it is compatible with all kinds of modern trackers for digital fleet management.
