MONTRANS Fuel Management & SMART HOUSE Telematics

One of the Moscow region citizens came up with an extraordinary idea of using fuel level sensors for his house heating system.

Pensioner Sergei Gulyaev lives in the Serpukhov district, where he owns a house of 500 м2, a garage of 100 m2, and a bath complex with a swimming pool of 330 м2. All these buildings have various management and life support systems. As a joke, neighbors use to call Sergei’s property a "smart home".

“I can't say that I really own smart home, but all modern life support systems are efficiently working. I have a special server, a heating system, video surveillance, an access control system, internal telephony, Internet, television, security and fire alarm, and intercom, " comments Sergei.

All buildings are heated with their own boiler house, which has two boilers with a capacity of 120 kW each. The average annual fuel consumption is 15 tons. On the coldest days, generators burn up to 70 litres of diesel fuel.

“Every year I spend about 6 thousand dollars on fuel. I have a swimming pool 5x10 meters. It takes 75 kW, and it’s the reason for such high consumption rates. Last year they calculated how much it would cost to switch to gas. It turned out about 9 thousand dollars. And this year they counted 10 thousand. I'd rather buy fuel for another 2 years and wait until Miller starts giving gas" says the pensioner laughing.

In the heating system of buildings, it is important that the fuel tank should not dry out. Otherwise, the work of all other life support systems will stop. During cold seasons, this may have irreversible consequences. The engineers of MONTRANS examined the work of the fuel level sensor, which had operated for 8 years and had not caused any troubles before.

“Fuel sensor makes the performance of the system absolutely transparent. You can see how the fuel is consumed. From the street tank, it is pumped into the boiler room. I have a tank of 400 litres there, in which fuel picks up room temperature. From here fuel is divided between two boilers. I have an employee who keeps an eye on the house, every day he puts down meter readings and room temperature. The fuel level sensor does not reach the bottom, and I know that as soon as the mark on the indicator reaches zero, then there are extra 500 litres inside. I call in a fuel truck to fill the container to the end and add another 4,5 tons. The sensor allows you to see how much fuel is consumed, how much is left, and how much you need to fill to full capacity. Very convenient. Like managing a car", explains the owner.

The fuel level sensor shows the volume of fuel in the tank and gives an opportunity to control the amount of fuel poured into the barrel.

“The MONTRANS solutions can be used not just for vehicles, but for any system, requiring control over fuel level. With modern telematics one can manage fuel consumption online. Thus, the owner of the equipment can calculate the consumption of resources, predict expenses, and the economy as a whole. " summarizes Stanislav Emelyanov, managing partner of MONTRANS.
